A keen gardener and naturalist since childhood. Kate studied at Brackenhurst and Pershore Colleges of Horticulture; Harlow Carr Botanic Gardens in Harrogate; and at the University of York. She designs and plants gardens from small courtyards to over ten acres; advises on most aspects of gardening; is consultant to several large estates and gardens including Hatfield House and Hodsock Priory - the famous Snowdrop garden.

     
   
Her first book, jointly with Miriam Rothschild was published in October 1996. The Garden in Winter was published in 1999. The Garden in Shade and the Aromatherapy & Herb Garden published in 2003.
